As part of its restoration, this Bel Air received a powertrain transplant.
Inside the engine bay now is a crate small-block V-8 engine from Blue Print Engines that has been balanced, blueprinted and dyno tested. The engine is a carburetor-to-oil pan component that includes Vortec cylinder heads, a dual-plane Summit Racing intake manifold, a
four-barrel carburetor and four-bolt main bearing caps. Generally speaking, these crate engines are claimed to produce about 330 horsepower as delivered. The engine wears a set of ceramic-coated exhaust headers. The Bel Airâs Powerglide automatic transmission and 12-bolt rear end are both believed to be original to the car.
The Powerglide and rear end have undergone mechanical rebuilds about 550 miles ago. The odometer reading reflects break-in miles accumulated since the crate engine was installed. A look beneath the hood reveals a clean engine installation with new belts, ignition wires and hoses. The paint, which dates to 2019, is described as being in excellent condition, with minimal swirls. No body blemishes are reported.

the oil pan. The engine is matched with a Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission, which was recently rebuilt and performs as new. Rounding out the drivetrain details is a 12-bolt Posi-equipped rear axle, which shows some wetness around the rear cover.

GMC produced its own line of truck engines for decades.
The straight-six in this 100 mirrors the classic Chevrolet OHV engine upon which it was based, but displaces 228 cubic inches, a displacement unique to GMC. It had a compression ratio of 8.0:1, utilized downdraft carburetion and was rated at 90 horsepower. the engine in this GMC 100 is
original to the truck, and retains its original six-volt electrical system. Its rebuild history is unknown, but a rebuilt starter and rebuilt generator have been installed. A slight weep is reported from the rear of the oil pan. The engine is said to start easily and produce no smoke.
The column-shifted three-speed manual transmission is unsynchronized, and has received a new clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing and throwout bearing. The rear end has been fitted with 3.55 gears, which reduce the RPM at road speeds. The engine bay presents as stock and spotless. The truckâs single-stage urethane finish still presents very well!

The team at PMD then added aero-enhancing spoilers and an exclusive hood graphic to produce a pony car worthy of the Trans Am name. The engine is bored 0.030 over and features a Ram
Air IV camshaft and Rhoads valve lifters. The distributor has been upgraded to electronic ignition as well. The original Muncie four-speed transmission was replaced with a Doug Nash five-speed manual, which has a very low first gear. The rear end features a 4.11:1 final-drive ratio.

He also says it has never been rebuilt, although the oil pan gasket and timing chain were replaced about three years ago and the original Quadrajet carburetor was also
recently rebuilt. The oil pan gasket replacement cured the engine of leaks. the engine starts easily when cold, with only a few pumps of the gas pedal, and with no smoke. A Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission is paired with the engine. good working order, shifts smoothly and doesnât appear to have any leaks or weeping.
A black vinyl interior complements the Saffron exterior and is in largely original condition.
