GMC produced its own line of truck engines for decades.

The straight-six in this 100 mirrors the classic Chevrolet OHV engine upon which it was based, but displaces 228 cubic inches, a displacement unique to GMC. It had a compression ratio of 8.0:1, utilized downdraft carburetion and was rated at 90 horsepower. the engine in this GMC 100 is

original to the truck, and retains its original six-volt electrical system. Its rebuild history is unknown, but a rebuilt starter and rebuilt generator have been installed. A slight weep is reported from the rear of the oil pan. The engine is said to start easily and produce no smoke.

The column-shifted three-speed manual transmission is unsynchronized, and has received a new clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing and throwout bearing. The rear end has been fitted with 3.55 gears, which reduce the RPM at road speeds. The engine bay presents as stock and spotless. The truck’s single-stage urethane finish still presents very well!

For 1979, the K-code 403-cubic-inch V-8 was designated the “6.6-litre” and was provided by the Oldsmobile division.

To enhance the original 185 horsepower and 315 lb-ft ratings, this 1979 Trans Am is powered by a non-original 403 engine, rebuilt within the past five years by a previous owner, and now featuring an aftermarket Edelbrock intake

manifold and Demon four-barrel carburetor for additional power. A dual-exhaust conversion with Flowmaster mufflers provide the muscular tone that these F-Bodies were known for. Underhood upgrades include a modernized A/C compressor and drier along with a host of new components: heater core, radiator, heater hoses, fan clutch, fuel tank and sending unit, and rubber fuel lines.

A rebuilt alternator was installed in 2019 and a recent comprehensive tuneup included new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel pump and filter, and a Kand N air filter. the big mill “runs very good and strong” and starts and idles quickly following one push of the gas pedal. Equipped with a shift kit, the 700R4 four-speed

automatic transmission upgrade, also installed within the last five years, provides an overdrive gear for more relaxed highway rides. Final drive is via a rear end with 3.23 gears.

the transmission shifts cleanly through the gears. Featuring GM’s trademark dual-control-arm front suspension and live rear axle with leaf springs, the unibody relies on Hotchkis subframe connectors and polyurethane bushings to enhance handling. The Pontiac “Snowflake” WS6 alloy wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires measuring 235/60R15 with 2017 date codes. The remaining underpinnings are unmodified from their original state. New shocks were recently installed.

The 95-horsepower 239-cu.

in. flathead V-8 is “extremely strong and drives magnificently, ”. The provided photos show a nicely detailed engine with chrome acorn nuts dressing up the cylinder heads. The transmission is the original, standard column-shift three-speed manual, which has synchronized second and third gears. The car will “still

run down the road at freeway speeds with no hesitation, wobbles, or creaks. This black De Luxe coupe received a body-off restoration. The car came from the John Woodhead Ford collection where it was restored to its period-correct black color, which consisting of three coats of black paint and three coats of clearcoat.

He adds that the floorboards, trunk, and all the typical rust-prone areas are “completely solid and rust-free, ” with no signs of any accidents. The undercarriage photos appear to reinforce the claims of a solid body. All the chrome and stainless trim items were restored. The car has accessory fender skirts and optional bumper guards. The bench seat is covered in correct

beige/tan cloth upholstery and the dashboard has been restored. There is a clock in the glovebox door and ashtrays on either side of the dash. The steering wheel matches one of the dashboard colors and it appears to be crack-free in the photos, while the headliner and door panels appear to be in excellent condition.

The suspension appears to be original and correct, per the photos, which also show front and rear transverse springs, original-style shock absorbers, and four-wheel drum brakes. The wide whitewall tires are mounted on steel wheels with trim rings and Ford De Luxe hubcaps.

Under that flame painted hood is a 350-cu.

in. Chevrolet V-8, with an acre of polished aluminum hiding the painted block. The engine is topped with a Holley Hi-Tek die cast aluminum air cleaner, with dual washable air filters. It feeds an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and an aluminum intake. An HEI distributor provides the spark and the engine

breathes through a set of chrome shorty headers and a pair of Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. The engine bay is clean, well detailed and ready for show. The engine mates up with a GM Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 three-speed automatic transmission, shifts in every gear.

There’s very little chrome to talk about here, aside from the grille, the bumpers and the side spears, all of which appear to be in excellent condition. The glass is lightly tinted and appears in excellent shape. The black paint work appears deep and beautifully polished. There are two small chips in the front grill. Beyond that, the black paint work is holding up exceptionally well, after 15 years of service. The interior is

completely customized with burgundy leather upholstery, which shows beautifully in the photos, displaying no cracks or tears in the leather or seams. The metalwork inside has been painted either a matching burgundy or a cream color.

While the interior is custom, a lot has been done to preserve the original look of the dash. The gauges are all original to the car, and appear to be in excellent condition.
