original 1942 Harley-Davidson WLA Army bike.
The bike is in amazing unrestored condition and still wears its original paint. I recently serviced the bike and got it running. I don't have much history on the bike but was informed by a knowledgeable WLA collector that the bike was most likely overseas and possibly in the Russian army judging bythe blue paint it once had over the original army green from the factory. The bike is original paint that has been reclaimed from under the blue paint believed to be sprayed by the Russian Army. I got the bike in this exact condition other than getting it running.
I am not a WLA expert but from what I can tell it is an extremely original bike with a few parts like the seat and carb that are not exactly WLA parts but are still some very nice and valuable pieces. I don't see anything repop on the bike and I don't believe the motor has ever been apart. Even the muffler and full exhaust system is original and in really good condition. The battery cover and speedo drive are the only thingsI see missing. This bike also has the original service tag that matches the serial number on the motor! What's even more interesting is the delivery date on the tag of May 2nd 1942 which is the day the German army surrendered and the Battle of Berlin was won by the Allied Forces essentially ending the war.
What an amazing date in history to have attached to this amazing motorcycle. This bike would look great rolling on the beach this summer for the 75th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France. Ultra nice matching numbers BMW R26.
The R26 model has never been officially imported into the United States, making them very hard to find! These old 250cc BMW Singles have become very collectible because of their dependability and parts availability. This particular motorcycle will for sure be serving many more generations in the time to come.
As serious and correct ones are getting hard to find, get one before the price will become completely unreachable. -This 61 year old R26 has spent most of its life in tropical Suriname (South America) and was shipped to the Netherlands back in 1996. A few years ago the complete bike has been restored to high standards, where many $$$ have been spent on this process.
To give an idea; the engine has been fully rebuilt (including the complete charging/ignition system, see photo's). The wheels have new wheel bearings, spokes tires installed (where their original 'Weinmann' high-shoulder aluminum rims have been restored). The complete electrical wiring is new, as well as all the control cables.
Furthermore the paint is completely new, where the white pinstriping is painted (thus no vinyl tape! ). With the bike is a comprehensive folder that also holds all the parts-invoices (see photos), plus the tire pump and a nice double seat complete with a set of rear footrests (can be fitted at no extra charge).
The odometer reading is 11505 km / 7163 mile, only have no history with the bike to check whether this reading is correct. The instrument is original to the bike and works fine. After it was restored, the bike has been thouroughly tested, but was not been used anymore in order to keep it like it is. To make sure that it can be used without a problem, I have just renewed the engine
oil, as well as the oil of the gearbox and rear bevel-drive.
Along with this I have also fitted a new (high quality) battery. It is starting at first kick and runs ever so nice and strong. Also out on the street it handles like it did on day one, where everything works like should. Clean title.

Original 6 volt electrical system, hydraulic lifters are noisy on startup but goes away after pressurization.
Starts and runs on choke, needs new rubber band gaskets at manifold and good carb clean to be fine tuned. Engine sounds good, no weird noises. Front and rear points have been timed by a well respected Harley shop in the Seattle area
so that detail is done. Miles on the Harley speedo say 10700, VIN # matches title, clean and clear title in hand. This was what they call a 'Coney Island special' because of all the lights and accessories on it and this Harley has been sitting dormant for almost 20 years.
It had more rear lights on it but I took them off because they really hid the originality of this bike. The previous owner's storage was broken into and he decided to sell before it was stripped to nothing. The tank and seat and one saddlebag and headlight trim were already stolen and that's how I received the bike. I had some newer gastank halves laying around and an old Harley seat and they will come with the bike but they're just set on the bike right now and are not original.
